2017 WEST RALLY
« on: July 10, 2016, 06:40:47 PM »
Hello fellow Phoenix Vulcan Rider members.
Something I?ve talked about whenever I had the opportunity, is the upcoming 2017 VRA West Rally.
At the upcoming quarterly meeting we will be selecting dates and locations for the rally. I?ve asked for all Members if they had an idea, to have it ready to present to your fellow Members, and we can discuses, and vote on it.
One thing I want to make clear is, this isn?t a competition to see who can come up with the ?best? Rally. It is so We as a Group can put on the Best Rally we can. One we all, as a club will be proud of.
For the newer Members, this is the second time Phoenix Vulcan Riders will be hosting it. Back in 2014, we hosted the Rally in Cottonwood Arizona, and it was a total success. 2016 Las Vegas healed it, and 2016 San Diego healed it for the second time.
I have decided to post my idea in advance, so you can have an idea on what you might need to gather to present to the Club.
After thinking of several locations, I took the suggestion I got from John ?Hornet? Howard??.. GLOBE ARIZONA !!!!!
Globe Arizona is 434 miles from San Diego Ca. And it is 384 miles from Las Vegas NV. And 87 miles from downtown Phoenix.
You know, I had a different location in my mind, but after doing my research, this is a much better spot.
While driving to Globe this past week, Hornet came up with an idea, so we went and checked it out. We went to the Fire Station. Hey Mr. Fire Chief, what are the chances you could give our Riding Club an Escorted Ride through your town, me thinking?yea right. Mr. Fire Chief said ?Sure, How Far?? So, on the day and time we choose, we will have an Escorted Ride. 5 miles through the cities of Miami, and Globe. The Fire Truck will meet us 100 yards from out PVR sign in Miami WTH!!!! The City of Globe Arizona is Ready for us !!!!!
The location for lodging will be the Apache Gold Casino and Resort.
It is located five miles east of the far east end of Globe Az. On the San Carlos Indian Reservation. 95 miles from downtown Phoenix.
John/Hornet and I visited the resort, and found it to be an excellent location. Everything you need in on the grounds of the resort, including gas station and convenience store.
And the Pool Ares is First Rate !!!!!! One thing I?m going to check into, is the pool hours. You see, the posted pool hours are 10:00 pm, and that is due to their insurance reasons, As you know, we are a insured club, I?m going to see if since we are, could they let us have to pool area late, if even for one night.
The Group room rate is $75.00 per night. We must put down a $350.00 deposit.
The rate for the Conference Room would be $175.00 for a room for 150 people. Free if we spend $1000.00 on Food and Drinks. As for the drinks, for another 75.00 we can have a bar setup on the room.
As for the Saturday evening dinner, we have a few options?
We can have a ?plated dinner? Depending from the menu, the prices vary from $15.00 for Chipotle tequila Pork Chops to $26.00 for 12 oz Rib eye Stakes, and several in between. The Buffet menu varies from $18.00 for Italian to $24.00 for an Apache?. And several in between. And of course, these prices are per person.
For your Dining pleasures of the other days, you can enjoy several restaurants on site like?..Wickiup Buffet, Black River grill or the Apache Prime Stake House
If you are feeling fast food, just five miles west of the Resort, you have everything you can think of.... even Dairy Queen !!!

The next thing we?d need to discuses would be the daily rides. And we have several.
We can do the Roosevelt Loop. Maybe lunch in Punk in Center, I called Punk in Center Lodge, and they could handle us. 200 miles.
We could do the ride we?ve done several times to Catalina, and do Bubb?s Grub, home through Florence? 195 miles.
How about Day Trip to Tombstone? 175 miles one way.
I found something I wouldn?t mind doing?. Arizona Zip Line Adventure. Price $ 65.00 to $79.00.
And I?m sure there several things I haven?t even thought of?. Like just spending a relaxing Day by the pool !!!!!!!
Like I said, this isn?t a contest on who can put together the best rally. It?s so We can put together the best rally.
The City of Globe is waiting, and ready for the Vulcan Riders Association West Rally, will we be ready?

I think that Globe is an excellent choice.   :)

Ok, I'm a bit of a "tech-tard".
There are so many rides with a start/finish  in Globe that I don't know where to start.
Haha,  start in Globe...  ;)
I also don't know how to vote for the name of the rally.
How about "Apache Gold PVR West coast Rally"...???

That's where my mind was headed.
Hopefully we'll get some more ideas this weekend.
We still need some art work.

Ok,  I still have to play the Tech-tard card here...
Suggested ride for the rally. Globe to Mount Lemmon via Christmas, Winkelman, and San Manuel.  Back to base via Whitetail, Tucson, Oracle Junction, and Az 79.
Lots of twisties and good scenery, with all paved roads.
I don't know how to do the mileage or maps.  I am sure that some of our more tech-savvy members can more than make up for my lack of computer skills...  ;Dy

BTW,  I would be happy to accept technical skills lessons from anyone who can teach a nearly 60 something old fart. 😉

Another ride suggestion...
From Apache Gold Casino/Resort on AZ 70 east through Stafford.  Stay on the 70/191 east through Solomon to Threeway, Morenci, Hannagan Meadow, Alpine, and Eager. Return via 260 McNary, AZ 73, Fort Apache, and Az 77/60.
